The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament. A careful judgment about the serious nature of the illness is sufficient. When the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is celebrated, God heals the recipient, either physically, emotionally, or spiritually. In this sacrament, the believer receives the Holy Spirit's gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age. Please call the parish offices at (412) 486-6700 to request an anointing.
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is an enriching and rewarding experience through which those who have decided to embrace the Catholic faith may enter into the Catholic Church fully. The RCIA team begins meeting in early September with individuals who want to explore Catholicism and what it means. The RCIA program includes not only discussions of what the Church teaches, but opportunities for fellowship and spiritual growth. The process culminates with the Easter Vigil Liturgy, at which time RCIA participants are received into the Church and receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist.
The RCIA program is appropriate for:
There are three sacraments of initiation: in Baptism, we are claimed by Christ and become members of His Church; in Confirmation, we are 'sealed in the Spirit', and in the Eucharist, we receive the graces offered by Christ through participation in His Paschal feast.
Each year, our school and CCD program prepare students to receive these sacraments. Usually, preparation for Confirmation begins in the fall, and the sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated in the spring. First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion are celebrated within the Easter Season.
Reconciliation schedules may be found on the Confession Times page.
